General:- 100 Plus

The UPA Government is working hard on their 100-day Agenda. The PM is also issuing statements in the media about what instructions he has given to his council of Ministers. He has also instructed his ministers to be “innovative” and implement the Plans given for the first 100 days.

What is so special about 100 days? Have the Bollywood-MPs inculcated the 100 day importance in Governance as well? The People of India have given the Mandate to the UPA to govern them for a period of 5 years. Why should the first 100 day be so important?

Had it been the first stint of UPA Or if the UPA had come back to power after a gap, the need to impress the people within the first x (100) days can be justified. When the people of India have been happy with the previous tenure of the UPA and have re-elected them, where is the need for this 100 day hype.

I want the UPA to govern India for all the 5 years with the same intensity and sincerity as they go about it now. I don’t like their idea of trying to achieve things within 100 days to impress the people. If MMS likes to breakdown his 5 year Plan into smaller 100 days plan, it is up to him and he can do so in Private with his Council of Ministers. But not in the Public. Many of us practice such breakdown of targets, whether it is at Work or in Sports. But we do not see our bosses at work informing every staff about what targets he has given to the Sales Head or Production Head. The work is delegated and briefings takes place regularly to assess the Progress.

There is no need for PM to brag about his plans for 100 days in Public. If his council of Ministers implement whatever plans he has derived, the people of India, as beneficiaries, will automatically come to know what work the respective Ministry has done for them. One need not have to be told what was done to him by the Government if the work done by the Government reaches/benefits him directly or Indirectly.

My request for UPA is to work on a concrete 5 year Plan. We are not for quick results. We want consistent quality governance for sustained long term benefits of the people. This 100 day plan or 200 day plan can all be internal within the UPA meeting rooms.
